philpot and pauls musique chief tobi ettle starts this year a new series of releases from young and well talented producers around the periphery of the label and record store. the range of musical direction will be very open minded but in general there will be dub techno, deep and minimal techno as well as electronic beats with some italo disco and experimental approach. first is done by steppin wolf originally from basel and now staying in frankfurt/main. before he was living in stuttgart and he was frequenting the pauls musique record store always bringing updates of his latest production. here hes now dropping a deep piece of techno with several acid splash and some kind of a boards of canada-feeling. watch out also for his current release on kanns division mana-all-nite. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

launched in 1996, ploink has been a core brand in norwegian techno for two decades now, booking the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, radio slave and richie hawtin, as well as launching a record label that champions scandinavian artists. with the likes of prins thomas, mental overdrive, nordenstam, mind over midi and label founder thomas urv appearing thus far, 96-16#3 is the third and final instalment in the 20-year celebratory releases.

alex suarez is part of a new breed of producers based out of brooklyn carving out their own unique sound experimenting in the world of raw primordial electronics. under the name cienfuegos, he has prior releases on brooklyn s primitive languages imprint as well as the france s unknown precept label-with his new -lost in god s country- ep we see him debut on the new york centered bank records. through the four tracks cienfuegos harkens back to the time of early industrial music, not far off from the early transmissions of spk or even hinting at sounds akin to e.g. oblique graph. suarez has a knack for developing textures and tension in his music sewing it all together with plodding rhythms and the occasional creeper vocal. heavyweight stuff coming most highly recommended.

dam swindle return to freerange with an exclusive track following the incredibly well received figure of speech and unfinished business releases. their label heist continues to hog the top spots on the leading download sites and their releases on freerange have been amongst the labels biggest sellers. recent dam swindle remixes of romanthony, hercules & love affair and seven davis jr have helped confirm the dutch duo as one of the most exciting and hyped deep house acts to emerge from amsterdam in recent years. tijuana based artist soul of hex aka sébastien vorhaus already boasts material on the likes of mcde, quintessentials and his own vicario ltd. the new project has already seen huge support from larry heard (including 2 remixes from the man himself on his release lip reading), and is fast becoming an in-demand multi-instrumentalist live and visual show.

having been on something of a hiatus following the birth of his kids, milton jackson is back and in best form ever on songs without words. his most recent releases have been on uk label tsuba and is responsible for remixes for recloose on planet e, al kent, and m a n i k. kito jempere debuted on freerange in 2013 but quickly got soon after got snapped up for ep s on dirt crew, let s play house and most recently room with a view. he also owns and manegs the fata morgana label from his base in saint petersburg. pittsburgh track authority are the genre bending trio releasing some of the finest house and techno from the east coast of the us on their own label in the machine age as well as esteemed imprints such as azuri, argot and finale sessions. kuniyuki is something of a japanese enigma, staying resolutely below the radar despite being heralded by many (including derrick may) as a major inspiration. the multi-instrumentalist has collaborated with henrik schwarz, vakula, dj nature and jimpster and has released on mule and sound of speed and remixed dj sprinkles, joe clausell and ananda project.

what happens when you bring together two percussionists who are well-established in the electronic music scene and commission them to produce four tracks exclusively with percussion instruments-with the only requirement being not to deliver any overtly thought-out nerd music? the answer has been provided by sven kacirek and thomas klein on this release.

after showcasing the debut releases from the high on wye quintet (magic mountain high, soulphiction and steevio) and monoak, the freerotation label returns with a various artists 12” featuring four more artists intrinsically linked by the annual festival. anthony child, aka surgeon, has been a regular fixture since first appearing at freerotation in 2011. his recent exploration of modular synthesis and use of the buchla music easel has found a home in the ambient yurt at the festival, and equally has manifested in album projects such as 2015’s electronic recordings from maui jungle vol 1. “unconscious fearless determination” follows on from this more experimental, less dancefloor-focused side to child’s work, while still pulsing with the techno fundamentals that quickly defined him back in the mid ‘90s. duckett hails from north wales, and has been a key part of the freerotation fabric since the beginning of the event. after some releases on mindtours, mindyourhead and sthlmaudio back in the mid-‘00s, his music has started to reach a new audience through releases on untilmyheartstops and a clutch of lauded live performances. “breaks my heart when i remember that day” captures the alien synthesis and emotional heft that singles duckett out as such a remarkable artist. steevio is the co-founder of freerotation and mindtours records, responsible for a huge swathe of techno releases reaching back to the ‘90s. as well as his releases on mindtours, he has recently appeared on untilmyheartstops and in collaboration with pev on schmorgabsord, and is set to appear on russ gabriel’s new label rivers of groove. with its expressive swells of off-kilter melody and snaking drum lines, “pendulum” continues the thread of exploration steevio has been following on his journey into experimental modular techno. tom ellis has been prolifically issuing forth material in a soul-enriched space in between house, techno and funk for more than ten years. from running the acclaimed trimsound label to releasing albums and singles on telegraph, archipel, hartchef discos and more recently ethereal sound to name but a few, tom’s recorded work and immersive live performances continue to reach out to new moods and timbres. “as a take” finds tom at his most reflective, layering on dubby effects and organic instrumentation in a truly meditative end to the ep.

keith tenniswood returns in 2016 with dub vault vol. 2, the second emission of dubwise productions under his radioactive man moniker, originally recorded a decade ago while based in scrutton street studios. a long time fan of roots, reggae and dub here he fully indulges in the genre whose keystone bass weighted sounds have informed the electro-focused designs he is predominantly known for. explosion begins the ep recorded utilising new toy at the time, a korg esx1 sampler and sequencer, resulting in simple but crashing dancehall beats with a diliinja style bassline that is pure roughage. second track razor sees tenniswood also take up the guitar as well as beat programming in this track named after the * stepping razor* peter tosh and a nod to his music hero adrian sherwood and on u sound vibes. blazer rounds off the ep, a collab with long term dub head and band member with keith from bargecharge (check fuel records early releases late 90s) james foster. tape echo and distorted bass make up the thick sound of this trac

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

people must jam s ninth record is from one of our favourite djs and producers. a guy who has a ridiculously large back catalogue and in our opinion it is a crime that some of his records haven t received bigger recognition. a true master of house and hip hop music, kid sublime has been putting out amazing records since 2001. his own label dopeness galore literally does exactly what it says on the tin. even before we launched people must jam s label we wanted kid sublime to be a part of it. now finally we are stoked to present this ep... four serious cuts for four different vibed floors - look out! first up kid s homage to techno legend ben sims with bang like sims a driving deep techno groove. strong percussion, deep stabs and that unrelenting beat are going to ensure this one gets some love on the harder edged, heavier dance floors. we the people heads a little down the tribal route with some afro inspired percussion, haunting samples and that kalimba! dropping a really infectious riff before beautiful piano melodies drift in and out of the mix. wonderful stuff. the title track i like em dirty , we feel, is a lesson in proper deep house. classic sounding house beats, little guitar licks, deep stabs and the vocal sample combine for this perfect house cut. massive. the ep is rounded out with another cut in tribute to the legend that was kenny hawkes. another master of his craft - kenny sadly now passed on but his spirit is well and truly alive in this fitting tribute. one 4 kenny features strong percussion, low bass, deep stabs and slamming beats = cracking stuff

hot on the heels of “the reason”, released earlier in april, mimi music continues to impress with the death no more ep from label head komplexx. he teams up with former booker of extrema and present-day photographer peter van hal. the original version of “death no more” defies genre boundaries with ease. fusing old school progressive stylings, well placed percussion, an epic choral vocal with a catchy main hook and a rubbery bass line, komplexx has unleashed a summer anthem for the discerning dance-floor worldwide. the remix comes from well respected german artist marcus sur. a producer in his own right, signed to noir music, trapez, highgrade, four:twenty records and many more, sur created a darker more hypnotic journey focusing on the percussive aspects of the original. and komplexx’s v.i.p. mixx heads off into housey techno waters from the start. deeper, more percussive and driving, the v.i.p. mixx keeps the central melody intact while creating a darker feel. this has mass crossover appeal written all over it.

pierre codarin delivers three groove focused house numbers for the second release on his selftitled imprint this june. the british producer has started the year strong, launching his own label as well as producing the third release on huxley’s no idea’s original imprint. both releases have seen incredible support from the upper echelons of house and techno, with radio slave, raresh, mr. g, laurent garnier and jackmaster all showing their support.

oskar szafraniec is a musician, producer, singer-songwriter and live performer from poland who lives in berlin. he s been experimenting with music since the age of 10 and has released projects under the moniker oscar burnside on various labels. collaborating with legendary uk producer a guy called gerald, oskar has also performed in many clubs and festivals next to well known artists and djs such as richie hawtin, mixmaster morris, ricardo villalobos, carl craig etc. this ep exclusively produced for cyclo demonstrates oskar s ability to develop a unique style inspired by his journeys around the world and his berlin life. whether for home listening or for the dancefloor, these 4 gems built with deep live sounds and subtle drums sequences will surely confirm the rise of a young talented artist ans producer.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

concept is the new baby established by the already international well known artist agency my favourite freaks, which consists of a four part and monthly released series starting in december 2015. all tracks will be out on vinyl and only for real and freaky club boyz and party girlz. international celebrated artists of the agency collaborated to create such a big collector s item.

physical therapy makes his debut on spencer parker s work them records with a medley of club focused techno cuts. growing up in new jersey, physical therapy later moved to chicago, then new york, before finally settling in berlin where he s quickly built a profile as a stand out dj/producer. baktadust comes in the form of two tracks: the fast tempo main mix that combines peppy piano riffs and metallic effects, as well as a slower fried mix featuring cleaner chords and a sultry bassline. push me then demonstrates robust percussion, a rumbling low-end and eerie tremolo atmospherics before shadowy echoes and off kilter kicks conclude the release in spasm.

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

the first r&b rec record is born from the encounter of two artists in the gloomy baltimore of the beginning of the millennium, after years in which their artistic roads proceeded in a very much parallel manner, without ever physically crossing paths, driven by their passion for analog instrumentation and the desire to find and create new rhythmics and sounds. it is in 2013 the two decide to join their forces to create their own personal vision of techno music and dance music in general. resulting in a hot and scratchy vinyl that combines dark, percussion sounds well known from detoit techno, with the sought after rhythmic of breakbeat and drum and base, of the british nineties. also packed with influences of acid-house, this record incorporates features of the so influential 80 s punk era, finally sinking it s roots in the psychedelic currents of the 70 s. the result is a brand new genre which is difficult, if not impossible to define. a unique way of defining dance music, in all its aspects, which is identified under the name of spaceship surgery techno.

the musical connection between berlin and detroit has always been a very strong and inspring one. jazzanova continues this close dialogue by putting mike huckaby in charge of remixing their latest song i human. huckaby is one of the unsung heroes of detroit techno. with his highly acclaimed deep house productions and remixes for deepchord, juan atkins, vladislav delay, pole, loco dice, losoul, and pacou, (just to name a few) he is more than well respected in the citys underground community and way beyond. his remix for jazzanovas latest track (off the brilliant album funkhaus studio sessions) split into two pieces on this 10inch, is a belter by all means. if you wouldnt know better,youd mistake it for a larry heard/mr. fingers production. still huckaby is putting his very own distinctive touch to this rework: a groovy rhythm section is added for extra emphasis on the dancefloor.and as the track builds we find ourselves in deep house heaven screaming for more. you better order two copies of this limited 10inch, in order to seamlessly mix part 1 intopart 2 - or vice versa
